Villa Conchi Vineyards

Comtats de Barcelona zone

Catalonia, near from Barcelona

Over 90% of Cava is grown and made in Catalonia, not far from the city of Barcelona and in the Provinces of Barcelona and Tarragona.

The vineyards are at three different altitude levels; the Low, Mid and High Penedès (the latter is “Alt Penedès” in Catalan).

The vineyards where Villa Conchi Cava is grown are around the village of Vila-Rodona which is in the heart of the Alt Penedès (Tarragona).

Altitude is key

to the fresh acidity

Altitude is key to the fresh acidity that “lifts” the Villa Conchi base wines and makes for an elegant, fresh and balanced Cava.  The higher elevation makes for cooler nights during the maturity period of the grapes, that’s important as grapes develop their aromas and natural acidity at night.  The day temperatures are perfect, between 25ºC and 35ºC, grapes develop their natural sugar levels during the day and that requires sunlight.  The Alt Penedès is ideal for growing quality Cava, it’s the paradise for crafting a premium product and the main reason for establishing Bodegas Villa Conchi there. From the vineyards one can see the famous Montserrat mountains in the background. The vineyards where we grow our premium level Cava’s – Villa Conchi Reserva and Extra Brut Imperial – are older than average and were planted as bush vines as was traditional then, younger vines and vineyards are trained on wires and planted in neat rows.

BARCELONA

The Art-Noveau City & its Lifestyle

The city offers both sea and ski nearby, has wonderful coast line areas like the Costa Daurada and Sitges as well as the Costa Brava – one of Spain’s most beautiful coastal areas – and the city itself is rich in Art Nouveau architecture and has an amazing gastronomic offer. Who hasn’t heard of Gaudi, one of the Art Nouveau movements’ most famous architects? Barcelona is the Gaudi capital and one can visit many of his best creations such as: Casa Batllo, La Pedrera, Parque Güell, La Sagrada Familia. However, in the famous “golden square” of Barcelona’s Art Nouveau architecture, within the “L’Eixample” neighbourhood, one can find up to 60 different buildings that are gems of this movement.  Examples of other famous architects and buildings in the city are Lluís Domènech i Montaner and three of his works – Hospital de Sant Pau, the Palau de La Musica Catalana and the Casa Lleó Morera (Illa de la Discordia) – and Josep Puig i Cadafalch and the Casa Amatller, to name just a few. The winemaking cellar where Villa Conchi Cava is made was designed and built by one of Gaudi’s disciples, Cèsar Martinell. It’s another gem of this style of architecture typical of Barcelona.
